Unfortunately alot of our original footage of Bella's first swimming lessons is about to disappear from the public gallery-with thanks (not!!) to the obnoxious manager at McKeon's swim school Unanderra.
Here at Admin we are aware of the laws pertaining to photo/video footage of children, but were of the understanding that verbal permission from our class mum's was sufficient. We have been told very condescendingly that it is not and we require signatures of legal guardians/parents before we post anything containing their children-never mind that at least two of them are members here anyway!!
It is not the protection of kiddies that has me fired up today, it's the narky way this business chose to pursue it..
We are so excited about this project, we chose to share it with this person, leaving them a business card.
Now if that happened to us here at babyvideos.com.au we would be stoked that some one was sharing their ideas and would look for a way to work together-DUH!!! If this PERSON was truly concerned about our kids, why didn't she say "Hey, are you guys aware of the laws regarding permission to photograph/film? You can have a look at one of our forms if you need to, because its important for the children and for you that you get it right.........but noooooooooooooooooooooo...like alot of people lacking personal empowerment, there was an immediate assumption that we had no permission.....and that here was a u beaut!! opporunity to flex some administrative muscle.
SO...as of 1/12/08, rest assured our swim class signatures will be held on file, and we leave you with these thoughts....
For an organisation acting as if they are so on top of things, why have we had an extra child in the class-it appears it was quite easy for them to be convinced we didn't mind; why were our babies squashed into the middle of a pool-when the class is overcrowded-because another class of kiddies were frightened by the schoolies who were supposed to be half an hour later,but....blah blah...seems to me the swim school is more worried about collecting the money than the safety and enjoyment of the students!!
